Imagine a different atmosphere, a world where life had not taken the same forms as it has here. Red stalks rise from the sand like arms, and large clusters rest their calm eyes upon the ground. Small, pale figures flit amongst them, tiny and bustling — it’s hard to tell whether they live there or are just visiting. I haven’t tried to decide: it’s a world, and it doesn’t need me to know how it works.
