My ‘flower-cells’ are an imaginary species. Each series depicts one of the environments in which I imagine them to live, and each imposes something upon them: the darkness of the deep sea, the sheltering rock, the void with no top or bottom.

What I’m looking for here isn’t the setting. It’s what the environment does to the species — and what the species makes of it.

They are not environments, and my flower-cells do not live there. They are landscapes; they are elsewhere, and they do not tell the same story.

They stand alone; that is why they are set apart.
